Martial Arts Bio

1932 -Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, U.S.A.

1940 -Began Archery.

195O & 1951 -Placed first in N.J. archery championship.

1950 -Member of high school wrestling team for three years.

1951 & 1952 -Studied western fencing (saber).

1960-67 -Studied Goju Karate with Sensei Peter Urban, reached 3rd degree black belt.

1967-75 -Studied Tai Chi with Grand Master Cheng Man Ching his 6 advanced students, was certified as instructor in 1972.

1975-95 -Continued studies with Maggie Newman, Don Ahn, B.P.Chan, Bruce Kumar Frantzis and Yu Cheng Hsiang.

1983-94 -Introduced and ran, open push-hands and fencing co-ops, as a way of sharing and broadening experience in the internal arts.

1983 to present -Has been teaching classes in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and has been giving workshops in all aspects of Cheng Man Ching's Tai Chi in the U.S. and internationally.

Master Van Sickle is also adept with most early/primitive weapons such as the Atlalt, the Sling and the Boomerang.
